The Hvmanity

My son Quillan is an adult now, but even at a very young age, he had his own sense of style. I was a little dismayed when he started dressing like other boys, but that’s a teenager for you. This year for his birthday, I decided to see if, at twenty years old, maybe he might be interested in dressing in his own unique way again. Not wanting to spend a mint on something he wouldn’t wear, I bought him a cap. Not just any cap, mind you, but one from Cult of Individuality. How I wish I had a picture on hand to show you how badass this hat was. Sadly, they’re no longer available (I would have gotten one for myself, but nothing fits on this big head of mine). However, my son was pleased and that’s all that really mattered.

CULT

The undisputed underground designer to the rock stars, not to mention legions of fans who (like my son) count fashion as a personal expression of their own alternative take on the world, Ron Poisson, made his runway debut on a warm summer night to a room of his loyal fans, media & influencers. In what was quite possibly the first fashion event of the calendar year since the pandemic, Poisson took the opportunity to show his main collection, CULT of Individuality as well as the debut, HVMAN, his take on upscale, modern streetwear. “Authenticity has always been a part of the brand DNA of CULT,” says Poisson. “We never want our collection to seem forced, or mass-produced. We work vigilantly to make sure every CULT of Individuality garment looks like it was broken in overtime & got its character by being worn countless times.”

HVMAN

The collections were shown in an intimate runway setting in a show under the creative direction of Mykel C. Smith Creatives, a show which was made possible by several sponsors including: Bartenura (Champagne), Loveton Farms (Rum & Vodka), Hiatus (Tequila), The Marshal (Catering), Marley Natural (Lip balm), Marley Coffee (Coffee), House of Marley (Earbuds & Zippo lighters), Mënaji (Skincare products), J75 Jump (Men’s shoes), Albright Library (Women’s shoes), & Marco Hall (Women’s design).
