Fashion and Fun at the House of Mua Mua

The Ziegfeld

From designing dolls to runway designs, Indonesian-born designer Ludovica Virga’s Italian label House of Mua Mua awed crowds with their streetwear couture pieces and fun pop culture-inspired designs at New York Fashion Week. The event took place at New York City’s famed Ziegfeld Ballroom and was truly a sight to behold. The Brand's philosophy is “I don’t give a chic”, thumbing its nose, I believe, at an industry that doesn’t quite embrace the more progressive designers.

Before becoming a couture brand, Ludovica Virga made crochet dolls. Not just any dolls, mind you. These dolls were not made for department store shelves. During a Chanel fashion show in Venice, she ran into Karl Lagerfeld and presented him with a doll made in his likeness. Impressed with her work, the legendary designer would commission her to produce 500 dolls in 2012. The dolls were an instant success, with Ludovica subsequently adding the countenances of Anna Wintour, Coco Chanel, Franca Sozzani, and Lady Gaga to the collection.

Eventually, Ludovica launched House of Mua Mua in 2016. Their debut fashion show took place at Arab Fashion Week in 2018, winning the best designer award and the love of celebrities like Paris Hilton, Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Doja Cat, Lele Pons, Avril Lavigne, Saweetie, and so forth. The Italian high fashion house showcases irony and bold femininity, as you can clearly see from the images on display here. Their sustainable designs are made in Italy out of recycled wool, PET paillettes, and up-cycled denim. Ludovica believes that fashion should be fun and not taken too seriously and who could disagree with that sentiment?
